The Caring North Campaign
The $10 million Caring North Campaign was Annauma Community Foundation’s inaugural fundraising program, created to support community-led initiatives that directly improve the lives of Inuit in Nunavut. Achieving our original goal was a significant accomplishment, and today the Caring North Campaign continues as our core fundraising program, driving lasting change across the territory.
Gifts to the Caring North Campaign are stewarded through Annauma’s 40-40-20 allocation model:
40% is directed immediately to community granting;
40% is invested for a minimum of ten years, with returns reinvested into future granting;
20% supports sector development and capacity building.
The Pirujaq Fund
Named after the traditional food cache, this fund not only supports Annauma’s core business, but serves to support other nonprofit and charitable organizations across Nunavut. There are over 200 nonprofits and 38 registered charities across the territory. Annauma envisions these organizations as one big community, looking out for each other as we travel towards a stable and prosperous future for all Nunavummiut.
In the spirit of sharing and caring for one another, Annauma has established the $50 million Pirujaq Fund.
The Pirujaq Fund will be accessible for community members to help serve their communities’ with strength and dignity. Like food caches historically, this reserved Fund will aspire to sustainably support the nonprofit and charitable sector for generations. Although less commonly used today, Pirujait and their remnants can still be found across the Arctic. They serve as a reminder of how Inuit have historically saved and stored resources in preparation for the future and the collective wellbeing of the community.
