Community
impact.
Across Nunavut,
communities are leading change.
Through Annauma’s consensus granting, local organizations gain the resources, connections, and opportunities to create solutions rooted in Inuit knowledge, culture, and priorities. The impact is found not only in the projects themselves but also in the process.
By coming together as a cohort, community leaders share ideas, learn from one another, and develop a collective mindset—working together for stronger communities.
Since launching the program in 2023, Annauma has supported 24 community initiatives implementing local solutions with a combined total of $2,300,000.

The effects of this work go beyond funding—nurturing leadership, fostering collaboration across communities, and advancing a growing culture of Inuit-led philanthropy.
Inuktitut Philanthropy embodies values of giving and reciprocity, where generosity is not transactional but a shared responsibility to care for one another. Guided by these principles, the ripple effects will carry forward for generations, strengthening Nunavut’s nonprofit sector and ensuring community-led solutions remain at the heart of our work.

From our Grantees:
“The consensus model shifts project accountability to a peer-based system, rather than a more anonymous contract with government members we have not, and will never, meet. This builds solidarity amongst northern organizations, builds wider social investment in programs, and encourages organizations to find ways of sharing resources and strategies to create more widely accessible outcomes.”
“Everyone had a purpose and that purpose was helping out our community. Seeing how we all came together to decide on which organizations get this funding was so calming. It was an excellent experience and I'm excited for our next cohort meeting.”
“Annauma has been such a pleasure to work with. I would tell potential funders and grantees that Annauma’s consensus based approach is far superior to any other source of funding for the support of Inuit. Empowering a group of nonprofits to make decisions together is not only unique, but it also creates links and bonds between groups of people who might otherwise never have connected”.
“We know what needs to be done, so why do we have to jump through hoops to get funding? Annauma will allow many more things for Nunavummiut to happen because they're taking away those barriers that restrict organizations from truly supporting the community."

Tukisigiarvik:
A place to find understanding.
If you ask someone what community means to them, you’ll likely get a unique answer from everyone who thinks about it. For some, it’s the place they live, or the social clubs they join. For others, it’s the culture, family and friends they surround themselves with. Nestled in the heart of Iqaluit stands Tukisigiarvik Centre, a pillar of community by all these definitions and more.
